We did exceptionally well at the recent Paarl and National Young Wine Show 2010. The South African Young Wine Show is held annually to allow winemakers to show off their brightest wines from the new vintage.

Perdeberg proudly galloped away from the competition with five gold, fourteen silver and ten bronze medals for their selected wines, with every one entered receiving an award bar one.

Amongst the many accolades that Perdeberg received, we were also awarded with the Sarel Rossouw Trophy for the five highest scoring wines in the Paarl-region competition. A remarkable achievement, considering the other great wine farms in this area.

Furthermore, Perdeberg was also awarded Champion Chenin Blanc, as well as Champion Other Wood Matured Red – for our Petit Verdot in the Paarl region’s leg of the competition.

Nationally we performed equally well, taking the Stephan Smit Trophy for National Champion Other Wood Matured Red (with the Petit Verdot). At national level Perdeberg had two class winners, Mouvedre (unwooded) and Petit Verdot (wooded)

Production manager Albertus Louw is quick to point out that the accolades obtained are the result of a team effort. “At Perdeberg we firmly believe our success in wine making is a result of our inclusive strategy. Everything we accomplish, is due to a strong team effort.”

David Frost, well known PGA Golf Tour Player, has launched a range of signature series wines that not only appeal to golfers but also supports the development of golf itself. For every bottle of David Frost Wines sold, a R1 donation is given to the Raymond Ackerman Golf Academy and amount of R 40 309.00 was recently raised and handed over to Mr. Mervyn Cusens to aid in their cause.

The David Frost Wine Farm is situated in the Agter-Paarl region of the Western Cape close to us at Perdeberg Winery which is why we support him in this initiative.

The Raymond Ackerman Golf Academy offers an outreach programme that not only provides golf training, but also assists young golfers in their academics. It offers support to supplement school studies, mentorship and golf tuition to produce talented young golfers. Membership typically runs from school grades 6, 7 or 8 up to the achievement of matriculation exams.

The Raymond Ackerman Golf Academy aims for their students to achieve academic success; mature into respected young adults; and to become competent and enthusiastic golfers.

David Frost and his family have been in the wine business in South Africa for over 60 years!  Whilst winning over 22 tournaments worldwide and recording the PGA Tour’s lowest putting total ever, David’s passion for wine was never far from his heart. His father’s vineyard was the first place where David’s passion for wine and golf started.

“With the pocket money I made from picking grapes, I was able to fund my first set of golf clubs and an ongoing supply of balls” says David, “then in 1994, I was able to buy my own vineyard.”

David Frost recently re-launched his Signature Series wine with a new look label. The brand was given a face lift by Somerset West based Wanted Design, specialising in wine labels, to better portray the brand ethics. A small gold sticker was also added to the pack to communicate that for every bottle sold, R1 is donated to the Raymond Ackerman Golf Academy.

The Nguni Day was held on the green pastures of Droërug Farm, owned by Cedric and Rene Stoch. Evita is an avid supporter of the Nguni-breed of truly African cattle.

She delighted visitors with her thought provoking anecdotes and positive attitude towards our country and culture, while also doing a signing of her latest cookbook, Evita’s Kossie Sikelela.

A nostalgic atmosphere was created, as everyone enjoyed traditional dishes, along with complementary selection of wines from proud sponsors, Perdeberg Winery.

The Foundation raises funds for scholarship programmes, while establishing a network of strong role models for mentorship. By investing in exceptional students, the ‘Give Me a Chance’ Children’s Foundation works to help these exceptional children realise their dreams, while promoting moral responsibility to positively affect the lives of those around them as well.
