Have you seen Merlot? He has a medium build, a distinctive brown patch on his nose, and a friendly, playful nature. (You might recognise him – he’s the zebra on our wine label.)
Merlot has been living in the Perdeberg vineyards for as long as most of us can remember and he’s become an important member of our family. We noticed he was missing on Saturday evening when he didn’t turn up for his supper. The next day, I found a ransom note in the vineyards!
Distraught, I reported the matter to the Paarl police. A few days later, they received an anonymous phone call from the kidnapper and managed to negotiate a ransom agreement…
Perdeberg will give the kidnapper 12 cases of wine (1 case a week for 12 weeks). Each week, the kidnapper will send us a clue that leads us to a new drop-off location. The catch is: the kidnapper wants you – the public – to solve these weekly clues.

How old is this kidnapper (excuse the pun), judging by the handwriting and paper used he/she cant be very old (the spelling is good though). Don’t worry Merlot will be home soon, kids always forget to feed their animals.. hee hee..
I’m sure I saw him being transported on the back of the bakkie travelling on the N1 – does he have a ‘p’ branded on his rump??
