Thirty of the Pick ‘n Pay Wine Stewards visited both the Perdeberg and David Frost wine farms on Wednesday the 17th of March 2010. The day was rather emotional, as Sheila Crosgreave (PnP Wine Stewards Manager) announced that she will leave the company on the 26th of March, which was the following Friday. Perdeberg and David Frost went our of their way to ensure that an impressive day was enjoyed by Sheila and her staff, as this was her last farm visit with them as a group. The day kicked off to a great start at the Perdeberg Cellar. Tea, coffee and some delightful biscuits were followed by two in-depth cellar tours. A big Thank You to both Riaan and Albertus, who led the staff through Perdeberg’s busy cellar. A big Thank You to both Riaan and Albertus, who led the staff through Perdeberg’s busy cellar. The group of Pick ‘n Pay Wine Stewards thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

What made the tour more remarkable, is that the group knew about the uses of yeast in winemaking, but none of them have ever witnessed it. Even Sheila was thrilled to see it for the first time!

After the cellar tour, the group was escorted via bus to the David Frost tasting rooms, where Chrisna, Sophie and Zirelda had decorated the room with utmost elegance and impressing the guests even more! The Pick ‘n Pay Stewards then attended a lengthy meeting, while the Perdeberg braai-masters were hard at work preparing a delicious combination of lamb chops and chicken sosaties. So, after the formal business part of the day, the group was treated to a mouthwatering braai, paired with excellent salads and breads from the local Pick and Pay.

Then Heloise hosted a wine tasting that showed a passion that is second to none, inspiring everyone in the room to completely convert to all of Perdeberg’s respectable wine farms. She led the tasting with wines from Perdeberg, David Frost and Bottelary, and included interesting comparisons between the wines. Her energy was felt and humour enjoyed, she did a great job. Thank you, Heloise.

Then at the end of the day, a photo session with Sheila and her staff conjured up some emotions. Each person received a little something to enjoy in the comfort of their own home. The gift pack included a bottle of David Frost Chenin Blanc, a Bottelary Rosé as well as a Perdeberg Soft Smooth Red.
