The police have named five suspects in connection with Merlot’s disappearance.
Among them is Dirk de Wet, a former detective who is suspected of trying to waste police time; and Shadrack Holmes, an ex janitor and notorious wild animal smuggler who recently escaped from prison.

While there is not yet enough evidence to arrest any of these suspects, the police are keeping close tabs on them…
“Any of these five suspects could be Merlot’s kidnapper and they should all be considered dangerous. We have them under close surveillance,” says Detective Swart, who is heading up the investigation.
